The studio is a large room consisting of a Brent potter's wheel, several
canvas and plaster work tables (including child-friendly
work tables), an
electric kiln, and many storage shelves. Beginner through advanced lessons
are available for all ages. Each student will be taught based on his/her
individual abilities, working styles, and interests.
Beginner Lessons
Beginners will be instructed in the basic study of clay as a three-dimensional artistic medium. They will be taught in both hand-built and wheel-thrown techniques, and in time, may choose which technique they would like to focus on. Students will also be taught about the glazing and firing process and will participate in glazing and firing their own pieces.
Intermediate to Advanced Lessons
Intermediate and advanced students will continue to work at the potter's wheel and/or in hand-building, learning finer craftsmanship and about the formal elements of their pieces and their relationships to each other. Students will learn how to make various forms, while developing their own unique styles. Advanced students will work to create a unified body of forms.
